Phevos the tiger passes away

Tiger rescued by Uppingham businessman and flown to US big cats sanctuary has died A rescued tiger flown 6,000 miles to be re-homed from a Greek zoo to a sanctuary for big cats in the USA has died. Uppingham businessman David Barnes raised £13,,000 to fly Phevos, a 17-year-old, 40-stone tiger to the Lions, Tigers and Bear Sanctuary (LT&B)near San Diego, California last year. Phevos was rescued from a travelling Italian circus in Greece in 2001 by local authorities and taken to a zoo in the town of Trikala. But, following Greece’s financial crisis, the condition of the zoo deteriorated and, in March last year, Phevos was left alone in his enclosure following his mate Athena’s death from an infection in an untreated wound. Pender County bears move to California sanctuary

The owners of the two black bears and two grizzly bears can no longer care for them at their Shiloh Road home so the bears will be going to live out the rest of their lives at a sanctuary in California. The non-profit group Lions, Tigers, and Bears came Thursday to get the animals ready for their new home. The San Diego nonprofit offers a safe haven for abused and abandoned exotic animals.
