It’s Time To Stop The Private Ownership of Wild Animals
Dear Members and Visitors,
The brutal images we saw from the tragedy in Zanesville, Ohio in 2011 ignited public outrage and was a catalyst for passing a state bill to regulate private ownership, and a stark reminder to us all that stronger and more strict regulations are desperately needed to ban the buying and selling of wild and exotic animals in the United States. Make-shift zoos and private pet owners create dangerous situations for themselves and their communities.
For years, I have talked about keeping wild animals in the wild and banning the private ownership of these exotics. Working with other sanctuaries around the country, we have pressed for these new laws and regulations but need your help.
While we can no longer help all the animals that sadly lost their lives in Zanesville, there are still thousands of animals that remain at risk, along with communities. I’m asking you to help us and join the efforts against private ownership of wild and exotic animals by doing any or all of the following:
- Write your U.S. Senator and ask them to pass the “Captive Primate Safety Act“, which prohibits interstate commerce in monkeys, apes and other primates in the exotic “pet” trade.
- Take the time to watch and discuss the telling documentary, The Elephant in the Living Room to learn more about private ownership of wild and exotic animals.
- Consider becoming a member of Lions, Tigers & Bears Big Cat and Wild Animal Rescue, and help create a safe haven for rescued wild animals so they can live out the remainder of their lives in a safe and healthy environment. Member’s donations go to the care and feeding of these animals as well as to educating the public on the plight of wild animals.
These animals deserve better and should be left in the wild. Our mission is to help those animals that have had this taken away from them and to ensure the protection of all wild animals. Thank you for your support for these wonderful animals.
