Lions Tigers & Bears Director Statement on the Escape of Wild Animals in Ohio
Alpine, CA – San Diego’s big cat and wild animal sanctuary, Lions, Tigers & Bears, Founder and Director, Bobbi Brink, makes a statement on the recent animal escape in Zanesville, Ohio early this morning.
“All of us at Lions, Tigers & Bears Big Cat and Wild Animal Sanctuary and Rescue are deeply saddened by the events that have occurred at the Muskingum County Animal Farm in Ohio earlier this morning. We are reaching out to local officials to assist where and how needed and waiting on further information on the condition of the animals.
“This is an example of how the system has failed and threatens the safety of nearby residents. Ohio, along with many other states, does not provide the strict regulations necessary for wild animal ownership and this should serve as a reminder that it is vital that federal requirements are tightened on wild animals.
“Lions, Tigers & Bears, working with other sanctuaries around the country, is calling for stronger regulations that require wild animal owners to place chips on these animals in cases such as this so that animals can be easily identified and officials know exactly the number of wild animals they need to account for.
“We will continue to reach out to Ohio officials to provide assistance and will update our members and sanctuary visitors as to further needs to help place the remaining animals if necessary.”
